Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - After winning the opener 6-3, Hood set a school-record with five home runs in a 15-4 game two victory at Stevenson.
Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) and Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) each hit two homers in the nightcap, the first time in school history two players had multiple home runs in the same game. Saglimbeni tied Blazer records with four hits and 10 total bases in the game and her six runs batted in were one shy of the school standard.
Erfurdt's homers were the first of her career. She scored four times, one shy of the school record.
The wins improved Hood to 3-3 on the year and 2-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
GAME ONE: HOOD 6, STEVENSON 3
Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) homered and threw a complete game to lead the Blazers to victory in the first game, 6-3.
The sophomore struck out nine batters, the most for a Hood pitcher since 2012. Paugh scattered six hits and walked just one batter.
The Blazers jumped ahead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery). In the fourth, Fourcade scored on Paugh's two-run shot. Kaylee Krietz (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) added an RBI base hit for a 4-0 lead through four innings. Fourcade drove in a run with a fifth inning single and scored on a run-scoring double by Saglimbeni to make it 6-0.
Krietz, Fourcade and Saglimbeni had two hits apiece for the Blazers.
Emily Soller hit a solo home run in the seventh for the Mustangs. Jasmyn Ogletree took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 4.1 innings.
GAME TWO: HOOD 15, STEVENSON 4 (5 INNINGS)
The Blazers' offense erupted for 15 runs, hitting a school record five homers in the process.
Saglimbeni kicked off the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single and another run scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. Kristin Mueller led off Stevenson's half of the inning to cut Hood's lead in half.
Erfurdt hit the Blazers' first homer of the game, a two-run shot that scored Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) in the third. Saglimbeni later scored on a passed ball in the inning for a 5-1 lead. Soller hit a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to make it a 5-2 game through three innings.
Fourcade and Saglimbeni both clubbed two-run shots in the fourth as Hood extended the lead to 9-2.
After Stevenson scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, Erfurdt and Saglimbeni each hit three-run home runs to make it 15-4 and the game was stopped after five innings.
Leaman was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs, three earned, in a complete game. She struck out three, walked one, and allowed 10 hits.
Saglimbeni was 4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs. Erfurdt went 3-for-4, scored four times, homered twice and drove in five. Fourcade had two hits and knocked in a pair.
Mueller, Soller, Molly Hoyt and Erin Stephey all had two hits for Stevenson. Brooke Steinbach was credited with the loss. In 3.1 innings, she allowed eight runs, five earned, on seven hits and three walks.
The Blazers are idle until traveling to Widener on March 16.
