Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College softball split its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader with visiting Arcadia. The Blazers won the opener, 6-2, but dropped the nightcap, 8-5.
Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had five total hits, including a home run and a double. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) was a perfect 4-for-4 in the opener with two doubles. Kaylee Krietz (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) matched Efurdt's five hits.
Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) tossed a complete game for the win in game one.
GAME ONE: Hood 6, ARCADIA 2
The Blazers had 15 hits in the game to pick up the win.
Fourcade broke out with a four-hit performance that included two doubles and three runs scored. Erfurdt, Krietz and Shelby Alcorn (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) all had three-hit games.
Hood jumped ahead 3-0 in the second inning with doubles by Fourcade, Alcorn and Erfurdt leading the way. Fourcade led off the inning with a two-base hit and scored on Alcorn's double. After Hood loaded the bases, Erfurdt drove in a pair with a double for a three-run lead.
The Blazers added two more in the third, when Kristen Scott (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) drew a bases loaded walk and Krietz had an RBI single.
The Knights cut it to 5-1 in the fourth with their first run, but Alcorn drove in Fourcade with a single in the sixth to stretch the lead back to five.
Arcadia scored once in the top of the seventh.
Paugh allowed just five hits and a walk in the complete game for the win.
Sarah Gunia started for Arcadia and allowed five runs in 2.1 innings to take the loss.
Amanda Hess had two hits for the Knights.
GAME TWO: ARCADIA 8, HOOD 5
Neither team scored until the fifth, but Arcadia made the most of its late-inning chances to escape with the split.
Erfurdt went 2-for-4 with her sixth homer of the season for Hood. She drove in two. Krietz had two hits.
Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) retired eight straight before running into trouble in the fifth. Erin Wilson had a one-out single and Tori Zaccaria hit a two-run homer to give the Knights the lead.
After Arcadia extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the fifth, Hood rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning. Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) had an RBI single and scored the third run. Paugh drove in the other run of the inning.
A two-run homer by Hess in the top of the seventh fueled a three-run inning that put the game out of reach.
Erfurdt hit a two-run shot of her own in the bottom of the inning.
Alicia McMahon went 3-for-4 for the Knights. Hess and Zaccaria each had a homer and a single in the game.
Wilson picked up the with, allowing five runs in seven innings. Leaman allowed the same number of runs over 5.2 innings to take the loss.
Hood hosts Messiah on Apr. 16.
