Box Score 2 GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Hood College baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader at Messiah in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action.
The Falcons won 11-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two.
GAME ONE: MESSIAH 11, HOOD 0
John Griffitts threw a four-hit shutout for the Falcons.
Tyler Cook (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) had a hit and a walk for the Blazers.
Joseph Saufley went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three runs batted in. Josh Good went 3-for-3. Messiah scored in each of the first five innings.
Hood's best chance came in the third inning when Cam Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) and Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) each singled and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Griffitts struck out the next two batter to escape the jam.
Nate Luscombe (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Jackson Slotterback (Arnold, Md. / St. Mary's) the fifth of five Blazer pitchers, tossed a scoreless sixth.
GAME TWO: MESSIAH 4, HOOD 1
The Blazers ran into another starting pitcher on top of his game as Steven Ridings threw a complete game and struck out 11.
Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) doubled and had two hits.
Andrew Eyester had a solo home run in the third for the game's first run. Austin Pletcher had a two-run single as the Falcons scored three runs in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
Hood scored its run in the sixth when pinch hitter Wayne Baldwin (Mount Airy, Md. / Chapelgate Christian Academy) doubled to drive in Warrenfeltz, who doubled earlier in the inning.
Travis Schweizer (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) allowed two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings, but took the loss. Matthias Teufel (Vienna, Austria / Sacre Coeur) pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings.
Kyle Schoen went 2-for-2 with a walk.
The Blazers travel to No. 13 Frostburg St. on Sunday, Apr. 17.
