Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College softball team dropped both ends of a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader to No. 16 Messiah 4-0 and 10-6.
Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) pitched a complete game in the opener. Jasmine Webster (Warrenton, Va. / Kettle Run) hit a towering, three-run home run in game two that gave the Blazers a 5-4 lead in game two. Kaylee Krietz (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) and Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) each had three-hit games; and Krietz and Shelby Alcorn (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) both tallied four total hits on the day.
GAME ONE: MESSIAH 4, HOOD 0
A two-run homer by the Falcons' Sydney Boreman in the seventh put the game out of reach.
Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) went 2-for-3 with a walk. Fourcade walked twice and Alcorn had two hits.
Amanda Jones led off the second inning with a solo homer to put Messiah on the board.
Hood loaded the bases in the third, when Krietz and Erfurdt singled and Fourcade walked to load the bases with two outs, but the Blazers did not score.
Boreman had an RBI single in the fourth to make it 2-0 before her two-run shot in the seventh.
Paugh went the distance, but took the loss. She struck out five and allowed 10 hits.
Courtney Allen tossed an eight-hit shutout.
GAME TWO: MESSIAH 10, HOOD 6
Hood led 5-4 after four innings, but the Falcons came back for the win.
Krietz and Fourcade had three hits apiece, while Alcorn added a pair of hits.
Paugh had an RBI single in the first, driving in Erfurdt for a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, an Erin Cressman two-run homer capped a four-run inning to make it 4-1.
Hood responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim the lead. Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-2. Webster followed with a three-run blast to center that scored Alcorn and Paugh for a 5-4 lead.
Messiah got the run back in the top of the fifth, before taking the lead with a three-run sixth.
Cressman and Becky Notte had three hits apiece.
Carrie Fix pitched four innings for the win and Madelyn Yannetti picked up a save.
Hood hosts Albright on Apr. 18 at 3 p.m.
