Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. - Hood College's softball team won the opener at York (Pa.), 7-4, but the Spartans rebounded for a 5-0 win in game two.
GAME ONE: HOOD 7, YORK 4
Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) went 3-for-3, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Blazers to the victory.
Shelby Alcorn (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) had three hits and scored twice, while Katelyn Long (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) had two hits and scored twice.
Beth Laque (Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decature) pitched a complete game for the win. She allowed four runs on six hits and two walks, striking out three.
With the score tied 1-1 in the fourth, Hood scored four times to break the game open. Saglimbeni singled, Jasmine Webster (Warrenton, Va. / Kettle Run) was hit by a pitch and Alcorn singled to load the bases with one out. Long broke the tie with a single to center field that scored Saglimbeni for a 2-1 lead. After a pitching change, pinch hitter Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) singled in another run to keep the rally going. After Kristen Scott's RBI single made it 4-1, Leaman knocked in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Leaman added an RBI single in the sixth and Long another in the seventh.
Brittany Myers homered in the second inning for York's first run. Katie Maloney went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Melissa Jurkiewicz allowed five runs in 3.1 innings to take the loss.
GAME TWO: YORK 5, HOOD 0
The Spartans' Courtney Martin tossed a four-hit shutout to salvage the split for York.
Long and Kaitlin Barron (Orrtannna, Pa. / Homeschool) each had a single and a walk for Hood. Leaman pitched a complete game, but took the loss. She allowed four earned runs on eight hits and walked four. The sophomore struck out five.
Leading 2-0, the Spartans scored twice in the fourth. Maloney had an RBI triple and scored on a double by Zittle. A run in the sixth gave York a 5-0 lead.
Courtney Gall was 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. Maloney went 2-for-3.
Hood hosts Alvernia on Apr. 9.
