Box Score MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Hood College softball team came up just a game short of the championship round of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament, falling 3-2 to Widener in an elimination game on the final day of play.
Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) doubled twice and drove in both Blazer runs. Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) allowed just three hits and only one earned run, but was the hard luck loser. Jasmine Webster (Warrenton, Va. / Kettle Run) and Kristen Scott (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) both singled twice.
Hood scored first to claim a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Webster and Scott singled to lead off the frame. After Kaylee Krietz (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) moved the runners over, Widener made a pitching change. Ally Horvath got the second out, but Erfurdt ripped a double to left field to drive in both runners.
Horvath cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning with a two-out RBI triple after an error extended the inning. Another error and a wild pitch in the fourth opened the door to a two-run inning for the Pride, who went ahead 3-2.
Horvath picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of three-hit relief.
