Knoebel Strong in Women's Soccer Opener

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College goalkeeper Rachel Knoebel made a career-high 17 saves, but Catholic proved too much in a 3-0 final in the season opener for both teams.

Knoebel surpassed her previous career-best of 11, set last season. It was the most saves for a Blazer netminder since the 2012 season.

The Cardinals got two goals from Taylor Pisk in the opening 27 minutes to take the early lead. In between the two goals, Hood's Erin Scarborough put a shot on net, but was turned away by Ally Marcello.

The Blazers added two more chances late in the half with a pair of corners, but were unable to convert.

Lindsay Aleman added a second half tally for Catholic to put the match out of reach.

Marcello and Christina Peyroux each played a half in goal for the Cardinals.

It was the head coaching debut of Conor Prachar

"We showed a lot of character today, despite an unfavorable result," said Prachar. "We carried ourselves with great poise against a strong Catholic University side and had some very bright stretches, especially early on. Our coaching staff will head back into the office tonight, watch the film and continue working towards the best technical and tactical side we can for the match on Saturday."

The Blazers head to Penn St.-Harrisburg on September 3.
