FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College volleyball team split a tri-match with visiting York (Pa.) and Rosemont. The Blazers fell 3-1 in the opener against the Spartans, but rebounded for a 3-0 victory over the Ravens.

Set scores against YCP were 25-17, 18-25, 25-13, 25-13. Hood defeated Rosemont 25-4, 25-10, 25-23. 

Kari Betson and Elena Zinaich had 19 total kills apiece on the day. Betson added eight aces, including five against York. Payton Belella dished out 41 total assists. 

The Blazers took the second set from a one-loss Spartan team that had dropped just six sets in their first 11 matches. York went ahead with a 25-17 win in the first set, fueled by a 15-6 run to start the match. Hood evened things after closing the second set with a 10-4 run. The Spartans pulled away early in each of the next two sets for the victory. 

Betson and Zinaich each had eight kills. Betson added five aces and four blocks. Belella turned in a double-double with 20 assists and 13 digs. Zinaich had 10 digs and Courtney Hutchinson was credited with four blocks. 

In the final match of the day, the Blazers made short work of the Ravens. Hood limited Rosemont to a negative hitting percentage in all three sets as the Ravens finished at -.095. The Blazers hit .447 through the first two sets and finished at a sturdy .257 for the day. 

Hood served up 16 aces in the match, including three each by Betson, Hutchinson and Zinaich. Betson and Zinaich turned in 11 kills each. Belella dished out 21 assists. 

The Blazers scored the first eight points of the match and never looked back.
