FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College volleyball team won the first set before Alvernia captured the next three and the match in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest.

• Elena Zinaich led Hood with 12 kills, and had seven digs.
• Kari Betson added 10 kills and two blocks. 
• Payton Belella dished out 31 assists and had nine digs. 
• Caroline Kinna tallied 16 digs to go with seven kills, while Courtney Hutchinson had a pair of blocks.

• Hood trailed 16-15 in the first set before a 8-0 rally put the Blazers in control, 23-16. After the Crusaders won a point, Hood scored the final two to go ahead 1-0 in the match. 
• Alvernia jumped ahead 13-4 in the second set and 14-6 in the third set to take charge early in both stanzas. 
• Hood led 14-11 in the fourth set after a kill by Zinaich, but Alvernia regrouped and took a 19-18 lead after an ace by Aubrey Gruwell-Keating and never trailed again. 

Notes

• Hood dropped to 6-7 on the year and both teams are 1-2 in the MAC Commonwealth.
• Alvernia's Laura Wachowicz led all players with 16 kills and four blocks. 
• Abby O'Donnell had 36 assists for the Crusaders.
