Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Hood College women's volleyball team held Arcadia to a negative hitting percentage to win 3-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener for both teams.
Set scores were 25-13, 27-25, 25-7.
Elena Zinaich had 10 kills, three aces and two blocks for the Blazers, who improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Courtney Hutchinson finished with five kills and zero errors in six attempts, and added three blocks. Kari Betson led the team with 10 digs and four blocks. Payton Belella had 23 assists and three aces.
The Knights struggled with their attacking all evening, committing 31 errors to finish at -.189. MaKenna Micklus led the team with six kills.
Hood jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first set and Arcadia never pulled with nine after that. The Knights played their best in the second set and the Blazers faced a set point, down 24-23. A service error tied the score and the two teams traded points before a Zinaich ace put the Blazers ahead 26-25. Gabriela Enriquez finished off the set with a kill for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Belella, whose service led to a 5-0 lead in the first set, repeated the feat in the third set. Hood led 12-6 when two aces by Zinaich fueled a 13-1 run to close out the match.
Hood heads to Penn State Brandywine on September 10 for a tri-match featuring Penn College. The Blazers' first match of the day is slated for 1 p.m.
