Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. - Hood College's softball team fell to North Carolina Wesleyan 9-8 and No. 15 Christopher Newport 9-0 on the final day of the Triangle Classic.

How it Happened
- Hood jumped out to a fast start with a six-run outburst in the first inning. Paugh and Roo Saglimbeni had back-to-back RBI doubles to make it 3-0 and Alcorn followed with the Blazers' first home run of the season to make it 5-0. An error brought home another run to stretch the lead to six.
- In the bottom of the inning, the Battling Bishops fought back with five runs. Kaitlyn Checkan started the scoring with a home run, but the big blow came from a bases loaded double by Tiffany Manning.
- After NCWC tied the game in the second, a sacrifice fly by Paugh made it 7-6 after the top of the fourth.
- Checkan went deep again in the bottom of the inning, with a two-run shot that made it 8-7 in favor of the Battling Bishops.
- Alcorn singled in a run in the top of the sixth to knot things up at 8-8, but Lindsey Sharpe hit NCWC's third home run of the game for the winning run in the bottom of the frame.
Notes
- Alex Herschman took the loss despite a strong effort in relief. She allowed just one run on two hits over three innings and struck out two.
- Logan Lowery, the only pitcher on either team not to give up a run, notched the victory.
- Checkan went 2 for 3 with two homers, three runs scored and three RBIs. Manning was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

- Saglimbeni went 2 for 3 with a double.
How it Happened
- A home run by Leah Andrews in the third gave the Captains a 1-0 lead. She also scored on a two-run single by Rachael Payne in the fifth that put the Blazers behind 3-0.
- Christopher Newport put the game away with a six-run seventh.
Notes
- Beth Laque took the complete game loss. She allowed nine runs, six earned, on 12 hits. She struck out five.
- Tara Heatwole kept the Blazes off balance all day, tossing a four-hit shutout.
- Andrews and Payne had three hits apiece.
