Pitchers Go Yard in Sweep of Stevenson; Paugh Ties Record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Both of Hood College's starting pitchers, Kayli Paugh and Sophia Leaman, hit home runs and pitched shutouts as the Blazers won both ends of a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader against Stevenson 11-0 and 8-0.

Paugh tossed a one-hitter and clubbed her 17th career homer in the opener to tie the school record for dingers. Leaman followed with a three-hitter in the second game.

Paugh drove in four in the opener and Roo Saglimbeni hit a grand slam and knocked in five in game two.

Hood 11, Stevenson 0 (5 innings)

  • The Blazers scored eight runs in the first inning, which was more than enough support for Paugh. The junior stifled the Mustang lineup, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks.
  • The first four batters for Hood all reached base, including a three-run home run by Paugh to tie the record that made it 4-0. Kristen Scott added a bases-loaded double and scored on a single by Erfurdt to double the advantage.
  • Jasmine Webster had a RBI single in the second before Hood finished the scoring in the third. Paugh drove in a run with a double and a sacrifice fly by Leaman made it 11-0.
  • Erfurdt was 3 for 3, doubled and scored twice. Paugh also reached base in all three of her plate appearances. She doubled, homered and walked, driving in four.
  • Kristen Scott went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs.
  • Naomi Fields had the only hit for Stevenson with a single in the second inning.

Hood 8, Stevenson 0 (5 innings)

  • The Blazers led 2-0 heading into the fifth, but back-to-back home runs by Saglimbeni and Leaman fueled a six-run fifth to end the game.
  • Leaman scattered three hits and did not walk a batter, striking out three for the win.
  • The junior also scored the winning run after doubling in the second inning. She crossed home on an error during a single by Shelby Alcorn
  • Saglimbeni stretched the lead to 2-0 with a RBI single in the third that knocked in Scott.
  • In the fifth, Hood loaded the bases with one out and Saglimbeni followed with a blast to left center that made it 6-0. After a pitching change, Leaman greeted the reliever with a blast to left for a seven-run lead. Hood picked up the walk-off run when Webster scored on an error with two outs in the inning.
  • Alcorn went 3 for 3 in the game. Leaman, Saglimbeni and Scott all had two hits.
  • Jasmyn Ogletree took the loss for Stevenson.

Notes

  • Hood is now 13-8 overall and 4-4 in the MAC Commonwealth. Stevenson dropped to 3-15 and 0-8.
