Esposito reaches milestone against Arcadia

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Cam Esposito became the first player in school history to reach 200 hits in a career but Arcadia outlasted the Blazers 10-8 in 10 innings.

Esposito entered the game with 198 hits and after walking in the first inning, singled in his next two at-bats. His base hit to right field in the fourth gave him the milestone.

Inside the Box Score

  • Brad Sawyer went 4 for 5, drove in a run and scored twice. He was a homer short of the cycle.
  • Esposito, Drake Friend and Alex Staton all had two hits.
  • Jake Howell took the loss in relief. He struck out four in 1.2 innings but was charged with three runs on three hits and three walks.

How it Happened

  • Hood committed five errors in the game, resulting in as many unearned runs.
  • Arcadia scored three runs off of two Blazer errors in the first inning to take the early lead. In the bottom of the inning, Daniel Shepherd had an RBI double and later scored to make it 3-2. An RBI single by Esposito in the second tied the game before Sawyer doubled and scored in the fourth for a 4-3 lead.
  • Josh Fulmer's only hit of the day tied the game in the fourth. Luke Hohenstein had an RBI double and scored in the fifth before Staton's two-run double in the bottom of the inning made it 6-6.
  • The team's traded runs again the next inning when Sean Carew's homer was canceled out by a run-scoring single off the bat of Sawyer.
  • Neither team scored again until the 10th. Carew doubled in the go-ahead run and later scored on one of two bases-loaded walks for the Knights in the inning for a 10-7 edge.
  • Eric Turner hit a pinch-hit home run to left in the bottom of the inning.

Notes

  • Carew, Bryan Gillen and Nick Ponente had three hits apiece for Arcadia. All three of Carew's hits went for extra bases and Gillen doubled twice.
