Box Score 2 ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Hood College softball team dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Championships at Lebanon Valley College. The Blazers fell 6-1 against Alvernia, then dropped a 6-5 final to the Dutchmen via a walk-off double.
Kristy Erfurdt had three hits over the two games, including a homer against Lebanon Valley. Kayli Paugh had three hits against LVC.
Hood finishes the year 19-19.
Alvernia 6, Hood 1
- Morgan Psiuk scored in the first on a double by Riley Shields, then homered in the third for a 2-0 lead for the Golden Wolves.
- A two-run single by Sarah Reinert stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth made it a six-run deficit.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Jasmine Webster and Kaitlyn Barron singled, and Katelyn Long knocked in Barron with an RBI groundout.
- Barron had two hits. Kristen Scott singled and walked twice.
- Paugh went five innings and took the loss, allowing five runs. Alex Hershman gave up one run in two innings of relief.
- Shields limited Hood to five singles and four walks to pick up the complete-game victory. She added three hits at the plate.
- Psiuk was a triple short of the cycle.
Lebanon Valley 6, Hood 5
- The Blazers erased a three-run deficit but a walk-off double by Kate Whelski eliminated Hood from the tournament.
- Trailing 5-2 in the sixth, Sophia Leaman, Paugh and Webster singled to start the inning. Webster's base hit scored Leaman to make it a two-run deficit. Hershman drove in a run with another single to pull the Blazers within 5-4.
- Hood tied the game in the top of the seventh. Scott and Erfurdt singled and moved into scoring position on a groundout. Paugh knocked in the tying run with an infield single.
- Anna Marie McClain and Savannah Toth had hits for Lebanon Valley in the bottom of the seventh to put two on with one out. Whelski hit a double to left center to drive in the winning run.
- Paugh went 3 for 4 and scored twice. Erfurdt and Leaman had two hits apiece, including a solo homer by Erfurdt in the first inning.
- Toth went 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Jen Kauffman had two hits and scored three runs.
- Leaman pitched a complete game but took the loss. She allowed three earned runs on 11 hits.
- Alexa Windsor went the distance for the win for the Dutchmen.
