Five different Blazers win in victory at Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Five different swimmers won events for the Hood College women's swim team in a 116-68 victory at Stevenson in Middle Atlantic Conference action.

How it Happened

  • Ann Coleman, Ashley Coppage, Melissa Jacobs and Victoria Plaudis each posted both a win and a second-place finish, while R'Janae Marshall was the Blazers' other event winner. 
  • Coleman took home the win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.93. She was second to Coppage in the 1,000 freestyle in 12:45.96. 
  • Coppage was the winner of the 1,000 freestyle in 12:12.76 and was second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:54.58. 
  • Jacobs picked up her victory in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:26.50. The freshman placed second with a time of 1:08.90 in the 100-yard backstroke. 
  • Plaudis swam a time of 1:14.83 to win the 100-yard breaststroke with teammates Molly Cronin and Grace Winpigler claiming second and third places, respectively. Plaudis notched a second-place finish in the 100 fly behind only Coleman with a time of 1:08.79. 
  • Marshall scored the victory in the 100 freestyle by swimming a time of 1:09.27. 
  • Cronin and Kaitlin Holsten each finished second in two events. Cronin recorded runner-up finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:27.11) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.64). Holsten matched her with second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (30.48) and 100 freestyle (1:11.17). 
  • Danielle Pong was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:15.59. 
  • Winpigler had the only third-place finish for Hood with a time of 1:22.21 in the 100 breaststroke. 
  • Both Hood relays won. The quartet of Jacobs, Cronin, Pong and Plaudis combined for a 2:05.35 in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 200 freestyle relay, Emma Weber, Coppage, Winpigler and Coleman teamed for a time of 1:57.88. 

Notes

  • The Blazers won seven of the 12 events. 
  • Hood evened its record at 1-1, while the meet served as the season-opener for the Mustangs.
