Long distance shooting not enough against Lycoming

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team shot 53 percent from 3-point range but struggled inside the arc as Lycoming escaped with a 57-41 win in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.

Inside the Box Score
  • The Blazers sank 8-of-15 from 3-point range in the game.
  • Lauren Keeney played all 40 minutes and led Hood with 12 points, including 3-of-4 from distance.
  • All nine of Mia Savoy's points came as part of a 3-for-5 effort on 3-pointers.
  • Keeney and Celestria Hill had seven rebounds apiece.
  • Marlise Newson had three steals.

How it Happened
  • Hood led early, 4-2, after a bucket by Mackenzie Grove before a seven-point surge by the Warriors gave Lycoming a 9-4 lead. After Newson cut it to a deficit of three, Savoy connected from behind the arc to tie the game with 2:27 to go in the first quarter.
  • McFadden, who scored seven points in the period gave Lycoming the lead as the Warriors scored seven points in the final two minutes to take a 16-11 lead into the second quarter.
  • Both teams struggled with their shooting as the sides combined for just 5-of-30 shooting. The Warriors managed 5-of-8 from the free throw line in the second quarter, while Hood missed both of its free throws in the period, to stretch the lead to 27-17 at halftime.
  • Lycoming stretched the lead to 13, 37-24, on a layup by Morgan Mader with 4:22 left in the third quarter but Hood did not allow another point in the period. A 3-pointer by Keeney and a bucket by Hill cut the deficit to 37-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The Blazers closed the quarter strong, holding the Warriors to 0-for-4 with four turnovers.
  • The momentum did not carry over to the final period. Lycoming opened the fourth with a 19-3 run to pull away and went 8-of-13 shooting in the quarter (62 percent).
Notes
  • Kayla Kline and Erica Lutz had double-doubles for the Warriors. Kline finished with 13 points and 10 boards. Lutz scored all 11 of her points in the second half and had all but one of her 12 boards in the final two quarters.
