Men's basketball stopped at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - The Hood College men's basketball team fell victim to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth's first triple-double fo the year as Jared Peters led Widener to an 82-68 win.

  • Mason Wang had a team-high 17 points and three steals. 
  • Tyler Evans turned in his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. He went 5-of-8 shooting. 
  • Evan Wang finished 4-of-7 from the field with 12 points. 
How it Happened
  • Peters had 16 points, 14 points, 10 assists and did not turn the ball over to lead the Pride. 
  • His first points of the game capped a 10-1 run over the opening three minutes, 37 seconds. Hood pulled within 14-9 on a basket by Mason Wang at the 13:37 mark of the half before Widener went on a 14-7 run to take their biggest lead of the half 28-16. Evans scored five points in an ensuing 11-2 run that pulled Hood within 30-27 with 4:38 left. Two free throws by Michael Riley kept Hood within 39-35 but Widener scored the final four points of the half. 
  • Peters capped an 18-6 run in the second half with a 3-pointer to give the Pride a 63-47 lead with 14:11 left in the game.
  • Hood followed with a 12-0 run, forcing eight straight misses for Widener. A bucket by Christopher Smalls cut the deficit to 63-59 with nine minutes remaining. Over the next eight minutes, the Pride outscored Hood 19-6 to go up 82-63 on a basket by Peters with 1:05 to play. 
Notes
  • Connor Laverty scored 24 points, going 6-of-10 from 3-point range, for Widener. Steven Matlack added 13 points and Elijah Boyd had 11. 
  • The Pride shot 15-of-33 (46 percent) from 3-point range. 
  • Hood fell to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the MAC Commonwealth. Widener, who is receiving votes in the d3hoops.com Top 25, remained undefeated in the conference at 7-0 and is 14-2 overall.
