Second half unkind against Stevenson

FREDERICK, Md. - Despite a strong first half, the Hood College women's basketball team fell to the visiting Mustangs in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action 64-59.

  • Morgan Anderson turned in her seventh double-double of the year and second in a row with 11 points and 17 rebounds. 
  • Celestria Hill scored a career-high 15 points, including a 7-of-8 night at the free throw line. 
  • Lauren Keeney finished with 11 points, four assists and six steals. 
How it Happened
  • After trailing for most of the first quarter, a fastbreak layup by Hill tied the game at 11 with 3:38 left on the clock. Mia Savoy capitalized on the opportunity by making a 3-point shot with 28 seconds left in the quarter, creating a 16-14 lead for Hood.
  • The Blazers capped their 19-5 run with 6:42 left in the half when a layup from Keeney increased Hood's lead to eight points (24-16). Keeney recorded six of her 11 points in the second quarter, shooting 3-of-6 before halftime. Hood held on to their lead with a 27-25 score to end the second quarter.
  • At the start of the third quarter, a layup from Hannah Crist tied the score at 27 to start a 9-2 run for the Mustangs. The Blazers fought back with a 3-point shot from Sarah Meiklejohn to tighten the score to 34-32 with 3:46 left in the third. Savoy's jumper with 15 seconds left in the third quarter left the Blazers trailing 47-39.
  • Hood pulled within two points twice in the fourth quarter, including another fastbreak layup by Hill in the paint with 21 seconds left. Three good free throws in the last 16 seconds by Stevenson's Brandi Hall sealed Hood's fate, finalizing the score of 64-59.
Notes
  • Stevenson's Olivia Coleman turned in a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds as well as five blocks on the night. Crist had 20 points for the Mustangs on 7-of-14 shooting.
  • Hood shot 74 percent from the free throw line, but were out-rebounded 52-39.
