Women's basketball slowed by Wolves

READING, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball team dropped a 61-51 final at Alvernia in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Morgan Anderson turned in her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Celestria Hill pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds off the bench and was one point shy of a double-double. She blocked four shots.
  • Anderson and Hill propelled Hood to a 50-44 rebounding advantage. 
  • Mia Savoy scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. 
How it Happened
  • Anderson scored six points in the first quarter but Hood as a team connected on just 4-of-22 field goals in the period as the Golden Wolves raced to a 16-8 lead. 
  • Alvernia stretched the lead to as many as 14 in the second period on a 3-pointer by Abbie Zerbe which made it 28-14 with 3:55 to go in the half. Hood closed the second with a 9-3 run and pulled within 31-23 on a layup by Lauren Keeney in the closing seconds of the period. 
  • The Blazers scored the first seven points of the third quarter and cut the deficit to 31-30 on a jumper by Savoy with 5:23 to go in the half. The Golden Wolves clamped down on defense and held Hood to just one more field goal in the period, while stretching the lead back to 39-32 entering the fourth quarter. 
  • With under two minutes left, Anderson blocked a shot at one end and made a fast-break layup at the other to pull the Blazers within 52-48. Alvernia went 9-of-10 a the free throw line down the stretch to ice the game. 
Notes
  • Gabriella De Vito and Cathryn Kramer scored 11 points apiece for Alvernia, while Amber Orban and Julia Ewan chipped in with 10 each. Ewan led all players with 18 rebounds. 
  • Hood held the Golden Wolves to just 3-of-16 from 3-point range but Alvernia went 14-of-19 on free throws. The Blazers attempted just eight foul shots in the contest.
