Fourth quarter perplexes women's basketball at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball team led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter but an 18-5 run by Lycoming to close the game gave the Blazers a 71-68 loss in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Mia Savoy led Hood with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 3-for-9 on 3-point field goals. She added seven rebounds and a pair of steals. 
  • Lauren Keeney and Marlise Newson added 12 points apiece. Keeney knocked down 2-of-3 from 3-point range and Newson came off the bench to shoot 5-for-9 from the field. 
  • Morgan Anderson finished with 12 rebounds and Ebony Pitt dished out five assists. 
How it Happened
  • Savoy found Anderson for a basket with 9:33 to play that gave Hood a 63-53 lead. It proved to be the final field goal of the contest for the Blazers at the Warriors limited Hood to 0-for-10 shooting and six turnovers down the stretch. Erika Lutz scored eight points in the fourth quarter to fuel the comeback, including the game-winning basket with 26 seconds left. 
  • Keeney hit both of her 3-pointers to start a 14-6 run to erase an early 5-4 deficit in the first quarter. Hood carried a 22-16 lead into the second period and opened the quarter with 12-2 run thanks to eight points by Savoy for a 34-18 lead with 6:40 to go in the half.
  • Hood led 44-33 at halftime before a basket by Akilah McFadden cut it to 48-42 with 6:05 left in the third quarter. The Blazers responded with a 10-2 surge, taking the lead back to 58-44 on a jumper by Newson with 2:33 to go in the period. 
Notes
  • Morgan Mader overcame a 7-of-21 shooting day for a game-high 23 points. Lutz finished with 18 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots. Kenzie Reed scored 11 points and McFadden distributed eight assists.
