Women's basketball falls to Falcons

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team fell to visiting Messiah 65-37 in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.

Inside the Box Score
  • Morgan Anderson recorded one block in the third quarter to tie the school record of 66 blocks in a single season, tying Danielle Allen's 2004-05 total. She added seven rebounds and eight points on the night.
  • Lauren Keeney and Tamiya Ford added seven points apiece. Keeney grabbed four rebounds and Ford came off the bench to shoot 3-of-5.
  • Celestria Hill finished with nine rebounds and two steals.
How it Happened
  • The Blazers took a four-point lead as the Falcons were held off the scoreboard for almost four minutes to start the game, but Messiah answered back quickly with a 7-0 run fueled by Leah Springer's five points. Hood trailed 15-9 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Messiah extended their lead with a 24-4 run in the second quarter, taking a 39-13 halftime lead. Layups by Anderson and Savoy were the only Hood points of the quarter.
  • Hood came back strong after halftime with a 7-3 run, cutting the deficit to 22 points. Save for two free throws from Springer, tough defense from Hood kept the Falcons from scoring for three and a half minutes. The Blazers' efforts were thwarted when a 3-point shot from Brooke Breinich increased Messiah's lead to 30 points, 57-27, to end the quarter.
  • The Blazers fought back again, scoring an unanswered six points to start the fourth quarter. The Falcons didn't score until the last three minutes of the game, but the damage was already done. A layup by Amber High in the paint sealed the game for Messiah, overcoming Hood by a final score of 65-37.
Notes
  • Messiah's Jayneisha Davis and Springer each finished the night with a double-double. Davis recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds along with seven steals. Springer added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
