FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's
Morgan Anderson and
Marlise Newson set records as the women's basketball team won its first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game of the season against Alvernia 69-61.

- Anderson recorded six blocks, bringing her to a total of 72 on the season. She now holds the school record for blocks in a season, beating Danielle Allen's total of 66 blocked shots in the 2004-05 season. Anderson also recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
- Newson shot 90 percent, finishing 9-of-10 on the afternoon and setting the record for field goal percentage in a game. The previous record was held by Katie Brennan with 89 percent (8-of-9) in 2004. Newson's strong shooting resulted in a career-high 23 points.
- Mia Savoy earned her second double-double of the season, recording 12 points and 12 rebounds. The senior dished out a team-high five assists.
- Lauren Keeney finished with 13 points.
How it Happened
- Anderson ignited a 15-6 run with a layup with 5:51 to go in the first quarter that gave the Blazers an 18-11 lead heading into the second quarter.
- The Golden Wolves came back strong in the second quarter with a 9-1 run, taking a 20-19 lead with 6:39 left. Hood used a 9-3 spurt later in the quarter go up 28-23 with 4:04 left in the first half. A deep 3-pointer from Gabriella De Vito at the buzzer brought the Golden Wolves to within one, with Hood leading 32-31 at halftime.
- After a layup by Alvernia's Amber Orban to start the third quarter, Hood's strong defense forced the Golden Wolves into 15 straight misses over the next seven minutes. Alvernia held the the Blazers to just four field goals during that stretch as Hood led 43-40 at the end of the third quarter.
- A 3-point shot from Dee McCormick tied the game at 43 with eight minutes left and Alvernia led 52-47 with six minutes to play. Newson started a 22-9 run to close the game as Hood shot 8-for-12 down the stretch and six different players scored during the comeback.

- The Blazers shot 53 percent in the fourth quarter after shooting 33 percent in the first three quarters of the game.
- Alvernia's Julia Ewen recorded a double-double on the afternoon with 15 points and 22 rebounds.
- Hood's bench outscored the Golden Wolves' 29-6.
