Men's basketball sweeps series from LVC

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's basketball team notched a 79-70 win over visiting Lebanon Valley in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action.

  • Mason Wang scored a team-high 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. 
  • Evan Wang added 14 points, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, and five assists. 
  • Christopher Smalls netted a dozen points and six rebounds.

How it Happened
  • Mason Wang scored eight points during a 17-8 run in the second half that stretched the Blazers' lead to 66-43 with 8:25 to go. From there, the Dutchmen outscored Hood 27-13 down the stretch behind 11 of Colin Jones' 29 points. The Blazers went 10-of-14 during that time at the free throw line to hold off Lebanon Valley.
  • Smalls punctuated a 15-6 run earlier in the half that gave Hood a 53-35 advantage with 12:39 to go in the game.
  • In the first half, LVC trailed just 17-16 before an 19-5 surge by the Blazers. Wang started the rally with a 3-pointer for a four-point lead. Lual Chol came up with a steal on the next Dutchman possession and Smalls knocked down a 3-pointer with 7:58 remaining. Evan Wang's 3-pointer with 5:16 to go in the half made it 28-18. Evans capped the run with a 3-point field goal for a 36-21 edge with 3:58 on the clock.
  • The Dutchmen chipped the deficit to 11 at halftime, 38-27. 
Notes
  • Jones hit 11-of-16 field goals and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Luis Garcia scored 10 points and Zach Tucker dished out six assists. 
  • The Blazers limited the Dutchmen to just 4-of-22 from 3-point range (18 percent). 
  • LVC's bench outscored the Hood reserves 27-10. 
  • The Blazers improved to 14-8 overall and 7-6 in the conference. The Dutchmen dipped to 10-12 and 5-8.
