SALISBURY, Md. - The Hood College softball team lost both games in the first day of the SU Tournament hosted by Salisbury University. Hood fell to Salisbury in the first game of the afternoon with a final score of 14-5. The Blazers lost the second game to DeSalesĀ 3-1.
Game One Against Salisbury
- The Blazers were first to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Angela Acampora was walked and Jules Baker scored from third. Belle Bortner then hit a single down the right field line and Caitlin Gosline scored from third. Hood kept Salisbury scoreles until the top of the third, when a single from Maddison LendumĀ scored Jillian Jones from second. Two batters later, Emily Allen hit a grand slam which allowed the Seagulls to take a 5-2 lead.Ā
- Hood answered back in the bottom of the third when a single from Mackenzie Grove up the middle scored Gosline from third. BortnerĀ then hit a double, scoring Grove and Acampora to tie the score at 5. In the top of the fourth, Salisbury scored four runs on two hits to lead the Blazers 9-5. The Seagulls scored again in the top of the fifth, adding two more runs on three hits. A three-run homerun from Madi Lemon in the top of the sixth finalized the score of 14-5 in favor of Salisbury.
Game Two Against DeSales
- The Bulldogs scored early, getting on the board in the bottom of the first when a double from Reilly Kerr scored Erin Redden from second. The Blazers kept the Bulldogs scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when a single from Gianna D'AcuntoĀ scored Hallie MuffleyĀ from third. DeSales scored again in the bottom of the fifth, adding one run on two hits to lead the Blazers 3-0. Hood earned their sole run in the top of the seventh inning when Acampora hit a homerun to left field.
Notes
- Acampora went 2-5 on the day with one run, two RBIs, one double, and a homerun.
- Bortner went 2-6 on the day with three RBIs and a double. She pitched three innings against DeSales.Ā
- Lindsay Wilson pitched three innings against DeSales and two innings against Salisbury with one strikeout.
- Kiley Banks pitched four innings against Salisbury with three strikeouts.
