Women's lacrosse victorious at home

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team earned their first win of the season at home against Washington & Jefferson College with a final score of 14-12.

Inside the Box Score
  • Cassidy O'Neill led the offense with five goals, one assist, and three ground balls.
  • Laura Skorobatsch added four goals, eight draw controls, and one assist.
  • Sophia Vilaca made 12 saves and recorded four ground balls on the afternoon.
How it Happened
  • Skorobatsch opened the game with a quick goal, scoring in the first three minutes of play. Sarah Labovitz of Washington & Jefferson answered back with a goal of her own, not even two minutes later. After a Hood goal by Tenley Reeder with 24:42 left in the half, Labovitz scored once more to bring the score to a 2-2 tie with 22:49 left.
  • Back-to-back goals from O'Neill put the Blazers back on top with 17:27 left in the half, but two goals on free position shots for the Presidents tied the score once again 4-4. After losing the lead with 4 minutes left, a goal by Rebecca Turner gave the Blazers a 7-6 lead. Two consecutive goals from the Presidents then gave them a 8-7 lead going into halftime.
  • The Blazers came out of halftime strong, going on a 3-0 run to start the second half and leading the Presidents 10-8 in the first eight and a half minutes of play. A goal by Skorobatsch with 6:32 left increased Hood's lead to four goals as Washington & Jefferson trailed 14-10. Labovitz scored back-to-back goals, bringing the Presidents within two and solidifying the final score of 14-12 in favor of Hood.
For the Opponent
  • Labovitz led all players with six goals on the afternoon. She also added four ground balls, seven draw controls, and two caused turnovers. 
  • Sofiya Bobrovnikova recorded three goals, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and three draw controls.
  • Sam Lenfesty stopped nine shots in goal.
Notes
  • The win brings the Blazers to a 1-1 record on the season.
  • Washington & Jefferson is now 0-1 overall.
