Women's volleyball thwarted at York

YORK, Pa. - The Hood College women's volleyball team fell in three sets at York (Pa.) in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 

Set Scores
  • The Spartans won 25-10, 25-20, 25-16. 
Inside the Box Score York 25, Hood 10
  • The Blazers started off on the right foot, scoring the match's first three points. The lead was short-lived, however, as Claire Shorb served up three aces during a 12-1 run for the Spartans that put Hood behind by eight. 
York 25, Hood 20
  • A three-point spurt capped by a block by Ray and Simms gave Hood a 7-6 edge early in the second set. 
  • York once again responded with a large run, scoring the next 10 points to take a 16-7 lead. 
  • MacKenzi Wright had two kills as Hood scored the next four points to make it a five-point spread before the Blazers eventually pulled within 20-17. 
  • Megan Rizzi had three kills and a block over the rest of the set to help the Spartans go up 2-0.

  • The two teams traded runs to open the third set. York scored the first five points with Hood quickly pulling within 6-5
  • The Blazers were within striking distance, trailing 17-14 after an ace by Malitzki, but a 6-1 stretch by York put the set out of reach. 
Analysis
  • Hood struggled to produce much offense in the match, accumulating more errors than kills in each set. 
  • The Spartans, meanwhile, hit at least .200 in two of the three sets. 
For the Opponent
  • Shorb and Rizzi had 10 kills apiece. Sydney Wilber finished with five blocks. Abby Diehl chipped in with 25 assists, while Jasmine Doguin tallied 19 digs.
