FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team dropped its home finale on Senior Night to visiting Alvernia 3-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.

Alvernia 27, Hood 25
- Neither team led by more than four points before AU used a 6-1 run to take a 20-15 lead on a kill by Olivia Frutiger.
- The Blazers scored nine of the next 12 points and had a match-point, going ahead 24-23. After Alvernia tied the score, Simms had a kill for a 25-24 lead. Allie Evangelista had a kill to tie the score again and back-to-back attack error by Hood ended the set.
Alvernia 25, Hood 22
- Consecutive kills by Carrington Ray and a block by Ray and Simms gave Hood a 7-4 lead. Rachel Sipling and Elizabeth Gillespie had two kills apiece during a 9-0 that followed by Alvernia as the Blazers trailed 13-7.
- The Blazers twice pulled within a single point late in the set on hitting errors by the Golden Wolves that made the score 21-20 and 23-22. Hood again went cold late in the set with a pair of attack errors to end the set.
Hood 25, Alvernia 21
- The Blazers quickly rushed out to a 10-4 lead. The Golden Wolves regrouped an pulled within a point five times before tying the score at 16-16.
- Hood briefly trailed 18-17 but kills by Ainslee Barger and Ambruster were followed by a block from Simms and Ambruster to give the Blazers a 20-18 edge.
- After Alvernia scored to again chip Hood's margin to one, back-to-back kills by Malitzki and an ace from Katie Amaguana gave the Blazers breathing room.
Alvernia 25, Hood 20
- A five-point run for Hood gave the Blazers a 7-4 lead on an Ambruster kill.
- The Golden Wolves responded immediately with a 5-0 run of their own as the teams battled back and forth in a set that featured 18 ties or lead changes.
- A solo block by Ambruster tied the set for the 11th time at 20-20 but it proved to be the final point of the match for Hood.
Analysis
- Hood's 99 digs were its second-most this season, trailing 117 in a match against Lycoming.
- The hitting numbers were virtually even, with the Blazers holding a .099-to-.094 advantage in percentage.
For the Opponent
- Sipling had 16 kills for the Golden Wolves. Evangelista had nine kills and hit .471.
- Frutiger had 31 digs, while Abigail McGinley added 22.
