Women's volleyball tripped up by Bridgewater

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to visiting Bridgewater in non-conference action. 

Set Scores
  • The Eagles won 25-13, 30-28, 25-19. 
Inside the Box Score Bridgewater 25, Hood 13
  • The Blazers started out slowly for the second straight match, committing 10 attack errors in the first set. 
  • Hood took an early 5-3 lead on a kill by Ambruster but Bridgewater went on a 16-3 run to take control of the set, with half the points coming on Blazer errors. 
  • After Hood scored on an error by the Eagles, an ace from Malitzki made it a nine-point deficit at 19-10, but the Blazers were stopped from getting any closer.
Bridgewater 30, Hood 28
  • Hood matched the Eagles' efficiency in the second set before Bridgewater eked out the 30-28 win. 
  • The set featured 11 ties and four lead changes in the early, going before Hood took a 17-14 lead on a kill by MacKenzi Wright that appeared to give the Blazers some breathing room. 
  • Baker later served an ace for the biggest lead for either team in the set, making it 23-19. Four straight kills by the Eagles followed and Lisa O'Grady tied the set for the 12th time, making it 23-23. 
  • Another five ties and three lead changes occurred before either team claimed victory. Hood benefitted from an attack error to take a 28-27 lead. Jessica Bissmeyer tied the set at 28-28 and a Hood attack error made it 29-28. Sarah Kerns finished the set with a service ace to put Bridgewater ahead 2-0. 
Bridgewater 25, Hood 19
  • Hood jumped out to an early 8-5 edge before a 10-1 run by the Eagles turned the Blazers' lead into a 15-9 deficit. 
  • Ambruster recorded a pair of kills during a 5-1 run as Hood fought back within 16-14. The Blazers eventually pulled within 20-19 but the Eagles regrouped during a timeout and scored the next five points to end the match. 
Analysis
  • Bridgewater hit over .220 in every set, finishing the night wiht a .259-to-.056 advantage in hitting percentage. 
  • Hood's service game doubled the Eagles' number of aces 8-4, while Bridgewater added seven service errors in the match.
For the Opponent
  • O'Grady had a match-high with 14 kills and four blocks. 
  • Ann-Marie Johnson had seven kills against just one error and finished with eight of Bridgewater's 18 blocks.  
  • Grace Hayes recorded 35 assists and Bissmeyer added 16 digs.
