Women's lacrosse wins second straight at home

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team had an impressive offensive outing to defeat Eastern 18-4 at home in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Jess Lyons scored three goals and recorded four assists, one ground ball, four draw controls and one caused turnover.
  • Laura Skorobatsch and Rebecca Turner scored four goals apiece. Skorobatsch added seven draw controls while Turner recorded one ground ball. 
  • Liz Connelly scored three goals and dished out three assists. She also added four ground balls, one caused turnover and four draw controls.
  • Sophia Vilaca made eight saves.
How it Happened
  • Tenley Reeder started the scoring for the Blazers with an unassisted goal less than four minutes into the game. Reeder then assisted Skorobatsch less than a minute later, allowing for Hood to lead 2-0 at 25:34. Connelly scored back-to-back goals, both assisted by Lyons, for a 4-0 Blazer lead at 19:54. Turner scored unassisted less than a minute later, quickly followed by a goal from Lyons at 16:39, making the score 6-0. 
  • After a turnover caused by Reeder gave the Blazers possession, Lucy Sokoloff scored at 13:26. Less than two minutes later, Mackenzie Demaio scored, bringing the Hood lead to 8-0. Eastern's Hailey Ferry scored the Eagles' first goal of the game with 10:05 left in the first half, but Connelly quickly responded with a goal of her own, bringing the score to 9-1. Hood scored four more times before halftime, leading 13-1.
  • Skorobatsch started off the second half strong, scoring off of a pass by Lyons twice in the first three minutes of play. Lyons then scored a goal of her own, allowing for the Blazers to lead 16-1 with 24:18 left to play. Christina Butler then scored the second Eagle goal of the day with 22:12 left in the half. 
  • After an Eastern foul, Turner scored on a free position shot with 18:15 left to play, extending the lead to 17-2. Ten minutes later, Allison Andres scored for the Eagles, making the score 17-3 with 8:03 left to play. Demaio scored the final goal for the Blazers at 5:53, assisted once more by Lyons. Andres wrapped up the scoring for Eastern with 1:41 left in the game, making the final score 18-4.

  • Hood held a 35-14 advantage in shots. 
  • The Blazers recorded 16 ground balls, while the Eagles earned nine.
