Ninth inning comeback gives baseball split at LVC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANNVILLE, Pa. - A two-out, two-run single by Hood College's Joe Monteleone salvaged a doubleheader split with a 5-4 win in game two at Lebanon Valley College after the Dutchmen won the opener 5-0. 

At the Plate On the Mound
  • Jake Howell started and took the loss, allowing two earned runs in three innings. The senior allowed one hit, walked three and struck out one. 
  • Ryan D'Allesandro was superb in relief, striking out 10 in 4.1 innings of work. He allowed one run on six hits and two walks. 
  • Joe Alexander gave up one hit and recorded the final two outs for Hood. 
  • In game two, Patterson allowed two unearned runs in six innings. He struck out eight, walked one and allowed six hits. 
  • Jahlin Jean-Baptiste picked up the win in relief, allowing one run and striking out two in 1.2 innings. 
  • Kyle Lewis earned his first collegiate save with a scoreless ninth. 
Lebanon Valley 5, Hood 0
  • Hood threatened in the top of the first when Patterson and Andrew Wenner were hit by pitches with two outs, but Kyle Kingsbury induced a fly out to end the inning. 
  • After a wild pitch and a passed ball brought in runs for the Dutchmen in the first inning, a two-run home run by Michael Leri made it 4-0 after three innings of play. 
  • Ryan Murphy knocked in Derek McCardell with an eighth inning single to cap the scoring. 
  • Hood placed multiple runners on in the third and eighth inning, but both times the LVC pitching staff avoided damage. 
  • Kingsbury pitched seven innings of two-hit baseball for the win. He struck out nine and walked just one, but hit four batters. Daymond Zweizig and Hunter Tipton followed with a scoreless inning of relief apiece. 
Hood 5, Lebanon Valley 4
  • Monteleone's two-run single to right field in the top of the ninth gave Hood the 5-4 win. 
  • The Blazers trailed 4-3 heading into their last chance. Sommer and Patterson led off the ninth with back-to-back singles and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Bryce Eberly retired the next two batters before Monteleone recorded the winning base hit. 
  • Lewis allowed a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth, but picked off the potential tying run at first base to preserve the win. 
  • Rampone led off the game with a walk, stole second and later scored for a 1-0 lead. 
  • After the Dutchmen tied the game in the bottom of the first, Saylor led off the third with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Wenner to make it 2-1. 
  • The Dutchmen once again tied the game in the bottom of the inning before Hood reclaimed the lead in the sixth. James DeProspero singled with two outs and Saylor followed with a run-scoring double for the 3-2 edge. 
  • Single runs in the seventh and eighth gave LVC a 4-3 lead. 
  • DeProspero joined Sommer and Saylor with a multi-hit game. 
  • Chris DeClerico had three hits for LVC. 
  • Eberly took the loss, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings. Tanner Rock started for the Dutchmen and allowed two runs in five innings. 
Notes
  • While both teams compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth, the games did not count towards the conference standings. 
  • Hood is 2-4 on the year, while LVC checks in at 5-3.
