Women's lacrosse can't solve Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team dropped its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth matchup with Widener University with a final score of 19-10.

Inside the Box Score
  • Cassidy O'Neill led the scoring for the Blazers with three goals, one assist and a draw control.
  • Jess Lyons and Tenley Reeder scored two goals apiece. Lyons also added one assist, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and three draw controls.
  • Laura Skorobatsch scored one goal and recorded one ground ball, one caused turnover and four draw controls.
  • Sophia Vilaca made 14 saves.
How it Happened
  • Widener's Emma Diglio scored within the first 30 seconds of play. Lyons then scored the first Blazers goal off of a free position shot at 27:45, tying the score at one. An unanswered run of five goals gave the Pride a 6-1 lead at 23:27 when Hood responded to back-to-back goals, cutting the deficit in half at 21:25. Caroline Kelley scored two Widener goals, extending the Pride's lead to 8-3 with 20:35 left in the half. Lyons scored her second goal of the game at 16:53, but Widener answered back with four more goals, leading the Blazers 12-4 with 5:03 left to play in the half. Hood went on a run of its own, scoring three straight goals before halftime and bringing the score to 12-7 going into the second half. 
  • After a Widener goal to start the second, O'Neill scored off of a free position shot with 22:26 left to play, bringing the Blazers within five. A Pride goal from Katie Ward at 20:37 extended Widener's lead to 14-8, but Hood quickly responded with another goal from O'Neill at 19:11. The Pride then went on a five-goal run, leading the Blazers 19-9 with 4:11 left to play. A goal from MacKenzi Wright capped the scoring for the afternoon, finalizing the 19-10 Widener win.

  • Widener held a narrow 17-14 advantage in draw controls.
  • The Blazers took 26 shots while the Pride recorded 41.

  • Gab Cohen, Alexis Colella and Katie Ward each scored four goals for Widener.
