FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's
Jahlin Jean-Baptiste pitched a complete game shutout in the first game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader against the Golden Wolves, leading the Blazers to a 2-0 win. Alvernia won the second game 7-2.
On the Mound
- Jean-Baptiste pitched a complete game shutout, the first of his career, earning the win in the first game of the afternoon. He gave up only three hits, walking one and striking out four.Â
- Ryan D'Allesandro took the loss in game two, allowing five runs in two innings. Six relievers followed, with Scott Ash, Connor Leard, James Walsh and Colby Childs each throwing scoreless innings.Â
At the Plate
Hood 2, Alvernia 0
- The Blazers started their scoring in the bottom of the first, when Chris Nalley hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Stephen Sommer. Sommer was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning and moved to third after a Patterson single and a Wenner base on balls.Â
- Hood's second run came in the bottom of the third inning when Patterson and Wenner led off the inning with back-to-back bunt singles. Alex Jenkins later hit an RBI single through the left side, scoring Patterson from third.Â
- It was more than enough run support for Jean-Baptiste, who retired 16 of the total 19 hitters that he faced.
- Shane Ostrowksy took the loss for the Golden Wolves, his first of the season.Â
Alvernia 7, Hood 2
- A four-run first inning from the Golden Wolves proved too much to overcome.Â
- Kyler Newton had the big hit in the opening frame with a two-run shot to center field.Â
- Alvernia added single runs in the second and fourth innings before the Blazers broke through in the bottom half of the fourth.Â
- Nalley led off the inning for Hood with a single to left and was sacrificed to second by Jenkins. He scored two batters later on an RBI single by Jacob Saylor.Â
- The Blazers made it a four-run game in the seventh when Nick Rampone led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Patterson.Â
- Alvernia added an insurance run to put the game out of reach in the eighth.Â
