Women's lacrosse finishes strong at Alvernia

READING, Pa. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team scored the final five goals of the match to defeat Alvernia University 14-10 on the road in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 

Inside the Box Score How it Happened
  • The Blazers led 8-5 at halftime before the Golden Wolves opened the second half with a 5-1 run to go up 10-9 on a Mackenzie McKinney goal with 17:46 remaining. Hood's defense would not crack again, however, with Vilaca making seven saves down the stretch, including a pair of free position shots. 
  • Skorobatsch seized the draw control after Alvernia took the lead and 32 seconds later, Wright found the back of the net to tie the contest at 10-10. With 13:32 to go, Wright found Skorobatsch, who scored what proved to be the game-winner for Hood. 
  • After O'Neill made it 12-10 with 11:55 left, neither team scored again for over eight minutes. Wright and Turner dashed the Golden Wolves' hopes with goals less than a minute apart at 3:23 and 2:25. 
  • Alvernia jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first half on a Hannah Chadwick score with 17:38 on the clock. O'Neill started a 6-2 run to close the half, tying the game with 16:12 left in the half. Skorobatsch gave Hood the lead at 12:50 before the Blazers benefited from a pair of yellow cards. Mackenzie Demaio and Connelly scored free position goals at 10:58 and 8:39 to make the score 6-3. 
For the Opponent
  • Gianna Taffo and Natalie Frantz had two goals apiece for Alvernia. Erika Whitmoyer added a goal and three assists.
  • Kasey Fox made five saves in 59:58, with Kirsten Lake playing the other two seconds of action. 
Analysis
  • Alvernia held a 36-29 advantage in shots and committed just 10 turnovers. 
  • Hood had an 18-5 edge in saves and a 15-11 lead in draw controls.

  • The Blazers improved to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the MAC Commonwealth. 
  • The Golden Wolves are 3-8 and 1-6.
