CHESTER, Pa. - The Hood College softball team dropped both ends of a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader at Widener 2-1 and 7-1.
At the Plate
- Angela Acampora homered in game one and finished 2-for-6 on the day and drove in Hood's runs in both contests.
- Brandi Davidson doubled and went 2-for-6 on the afternoon.
Inside the Circle
- Belle Bortner tossed a complete game in the opener but took a tough-luck loss. She scattered four hits and a walk, allowing two runs and striking out three.
- Jordan Long went the distance in the nightcap, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out six.
Widener 2, Hood 1
- Widener took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Mikaela Lovell singled and scored on an RBI triple by Ally McDowell. Bortner forced a ground out and struck out the next two hitters to escape the jam without further damage.
- Cailyn Barthlow led off the fourth with a double but the Blazers stranded her on second.
- Hood finally broke through in the fifth when Acampora took a pitch over the fence in left-center to tie the game at 1-1.
- Lindsey Cooper broke the tie with a home run of her own to put the Pride on top 2-1.
- Kait Jaworski picked up the win with seven innings of one-run pitching. She struck out eight and allowed just four hits.
Widener 7, Hood 1
- The Pride scored in each of the first five innings to put the game out of reach.
- In the first inning, Widener executed a squeeze play with Cooper driving in Carli Benozich for a 1-0 lead.
- A Blazer error opened the door for another run in the second inning with Hope Dimario reaching and later scoring on a single by Kaylin Johnson base hit.
- After a run scored on a wild pitch earlier in the third, Malia Calciano hit two-run home run to make it 5-0.
- Hood answered back with a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to four. Davidson led off with a double and scored on a an Acampora single.
- Benozich had an RBI double in the fourth and Calciano knocked in the final run in the fifth.
- Ellee Romie walked twice and stole a base for Hood.
- Jennifer Sieminski allowed just three hits and two walks in the complete game victory. She struck out six.
- Benozich and Caliciano had two hits apiece.
Notes
- Hood slipped to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.
- Widener improved to 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
