Field hockey stopped in season opener

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Hood College field hockey team dropped its season opener at Washington College (Md.) 6-0 in a non-conference contest. 

Inside the Box Score How it Happened 
  • Washington College (Md.) started off the scoring with a late first period goal from Kate Gromacki.
  • After leading 1-0 after the first quarter, the Shorewomen added a goal by Kat Esposito to make it 2-0 at the half.  
  • Hood's best opportunity to score came early in the third period. Tanae Johnson outran her defender with the ball but her shot from the top of the circle was saved.
  • The Shorewomen pulled away with three goals in ten minutes later in the third period, two unassisted by Esposito, and one by Julianna Sterling.
  • Cordero picked up a defensive save late in the fourth period in front of the cage. Immediately after the stop by Cordero, the Shorewomen's Cristen Quillen was awarded a penalty stroke that was saved by Brown. 
  • Quillen capped off the scoring for the Shorewomen assisted by Ellie Bossi in the 59th minute. 
Analysis
  • Washington College (Md.) had 30 shots in the contest.
  • Hood held a 12-to-1 save advantage over Washington College (Md.)
For The Opponent
  • Esposito scored twice to lead all players.
  • Sasha Dennis recorded the only save on one shot in the match.

  • Hood falls to 0-1 on the season, while Washington moves to 1-0.
  • It was the first game for the Blazers under head coach Carley Shannon.
