FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 final to visiting Widener in its first home Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match of the year.

Set 1: Widener 25, Hood 20
- A kill by Carrington Ray pulled the Blazers within 13-12 before the Pride stretched it to 17-13.
- Walissa Jaque followed with a kill and an attack error by the Pride immediately pulled Hood back to within two, but a Carly Venit kills for Widener stretched the lead to three and the Blazers would get no closer the rest of the way.
Set 2: Widener 25, Hood 15
- Hood's attack could not get going in the second set as the Blazers finished with seven kills and nine errors.
- After hitting .351 in the first set, the Pride checked in a .269 in the second set.
- Widener took the early lead before a kill from Ambruster cut the Pride's lead to 9-8. Seven of Hood's nine attack errors came in an ensuing 11-4 run from Widener that made it 20-12.
Set 3: Hood 25, Widener 19
- The Blazers rebounded in the third set. Widener scored first but then had four-straight attack errors. Matlitzki served a pair of aces before a kill by Elizondo made it 7-1.
- Hood took its biggest lead of the set on another Elizondo kill that made it 21-12.
- The Blazers pushed the lead nine one more time when a kill by MacKenzi Wright gave Hood a 24-15 lead.
- Widener fought off four straight set-points before Ambruster notched a kill to make it 2-1.
Set 4: Widener 25, Hood 19
- After falling behind 7-1 in the previous set, Widener opened the fourth set with a 7-1 run.
- The Blazers trailed 16-10 when a pair of attack errors by the Pride ignited a set-tying six-point surge. After kills by Malitzki and Ray, back-to-back aces by Elizondo tied the score at 16-16.
- Hood tied the score two more times at 17-17 and 18-18 before a kill by Sydney Nichols made the score 19-18 and gave Widener the lead for good.
Analysis
- Widener hit .212 in the match, compared to .080 for the Blazers.
- Hood held the advantage in the service game with nine aces against just three by the Pride.
Notes
- Hood fell to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the MAC Commonwealth, while Widener improved to 9-3 and 1-1.
- The match marked Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night for the women's volleyball program. Each player picked a member of the faculty or staff from Hood, who joined them team on the court before the match.
