ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball team lost 78-56 at Eastern University in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play. 

Inside the Box Score 

• Marlise Newson (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) led the Blazers with 12 points, to go along with three rebounds and two steals. The junior added three assists and went 6-of-6 from the free throw line. 
• Philippa Clouse (Olney, MD/Sandy Spring Friends) recorded 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting and nine rebounds setting career-highs in both categories. 
• Tam Stanford (Baltimore, MD/Our Lady of Mount Carmel) finished with a career-high 10 points and five rebounds.
• Morgan Anderson (Baltimore, MD/New Town) grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. The senior added a season- high six blocks and four assists. 

How it Happened 

• Both teams traded baskets in the first seven minutes of play, but a layup by Eastern's Jaelyn Harris with 3:32 remaining started a 12-2 run to give the Eagles a 21-10 lead to end the first period. 
• Hood got going early to start the second quarter, a jumper by Anderson sparked a 9-0 run to come within two points with 7:30 remaining (21-19). After a jumper by Stanford cut the deficit to two, the Eagles answered back outscored Hood 15-2 run to end the first half with a 36-21 lead. 
• The Eagles' run to the end of the half was the beginning of a larger 38-8 stretch that gave the Eagles their biggest lead, 59-29. Etchison halted the run with the final bucket of the third quarter before Hood turned in a strong fourth period. Hood's Clouse made layup in the first seven seconds as the Blazers went on a 10-0 run to open the final quarter. The Blazers' efforts were thwarted when a layup from the Eagles Taryn Woodson started a 17-6 run to put the score 76-47 with 3:10 left in the period. The Blazers fought back again scoring an unanswered seven points with 1:14 left in the game.  

Analysis 

• The Eagles committed just 17 turnovers in the contest, compared to 31 for the Blazers, as the Eagles outscored Hood 36-14 off turnovers. 
• Eastern held a 38-30 advantage in points in the paint. 
• Hood edged Eastern 45-41 in rebounds. 

For the opponent 

• Woodson led the Eagles with 20 points from 7-of-12 shooting and five rebounds. 
• Camila Sosa recorded 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists. 
• Mikayla Wright finished with 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. 

Notes 

• The Blazers dropped to 5-7 in the season and 2-3 in the MAC Commonwealth.  
• Eastern improved to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
