Women's volleyball drops match to Spartans

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team won the second set but fell 3-1 to visiting York (Pa.) in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match.

  • The Spartans won 25-16, 18-25, 25-9, 25-12.

  • Caitlin Ambruster (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) led Hood with 11 kills. 
  • Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, PA/Parkland) recorded 28 assists.

How it Happened
  • Hood trailed just 13-11 before a 7-1 run by York, fueled by three kills from Megan Rizzi and two aces by Alyssa Mott, made it 20-12. 
  • In the second set, with the score tied 14-14, the Blazers scored four straight points to take an 18-14 led on a MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) kill. The Spartans eventually pulled within 20-18 but Hood rattled off the final five points, including set point on a block by Ambruster and Ofoegbu, to tie the match at 1-1. 
  • The Spartans used a 12-3 run in the third set and a 12-0 run in set four to put the match away.
