Women's volleyball downed in three

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 final to visiting Eastern in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.

  • The Eagles won 25-14, 25-17, 25-17. 
Inside the Box Score
  • Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) and Shane Simms (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) both had error-free nights hitting. Ofoegbu had seven kills in 15 attempts (.467), while Simms tacked on four kills in 14 attacks (.286). 
  • Caitlin Ambruster (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) led the Blazers with nine kills and 19 digs.
  • Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) dished out 22 assists. 
How it Happened
  • Hood trailed just 8-6 after a kill by Malitzki but Eastern used a 12-3 run to put the first set out of reach.  
  • A kill by Emma Elizondo (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) pulled the Blazers within 21-17 in the second set before the Eagles scored the final four points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. 
  • In the third set, Eastern appeared to put the match away with a 10-point run that made it 22-10 but Hood rallied for a final run. A 7-1 run by the Blazers, including two kills by SImms, made it 23-17 before Eastern put the match away with a kill by Peyton Wheeler and an ace from Kaylyn Zeigler. 
Analysis
  • Eastern hit .228 for the night, while Hood finished the evening at .093. 
For the Opponent
  • Hannah Pringle had 12 kills in 21 attacks, hitting .429 in the match. 
  • Elle Jiron-Bujanda recorded 31 assists and Grace Casagrande was credited with 22 digs.
