FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College softball team picked up its first win of the season in style, walking off against Catholic in the bottom of the ninth inning 6-5.
Unfortunately for all involved, game two was called due to darkness before reaching the point of completion.

- In the bottom of the seventh, Gottleib led off with a single and moved up to second on a groundout. After a Brandi Davidson single put runners on the corners, Gottleib came home on a sacrifice fly by Sammy McIntosh to send the game to extra innings.
- Both teams pushed their international tiebreaker runner to third in the eighth but Gottleib and Catholic's Katie Hurd retired the side before allowing a run.
- In the top of the ninth, a two-out single by Sammy Phillips drove in the go-ahead run to give Catholic a 5-4 edge.
- Hood answered in the bottom of the inning. Mallorie Hetzel reached on an error by the first baseman, allowing Delanie Henry, the international tie breaker runner, to move to third. Lillian Larsen came on to pinch run for Hetzel and stole second. Gottleib tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right that drove in Henry to tie the game and moved Larsen to third.
- Walters gave Hood the walk-off win with an RBI single.
- Catholic opened the scoring when Makayla Czan doubled to lead off the game and scored on a base hit by Phillips.
- Hood erased the deficit in the third. Rachel Benden tied the game with an RBI single with one out. After Barthlow moved Benden and McIntosh into scoring position, Pfleiger hit a two-run single to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead.
- The lead stood until a pair of errors by Hood paved the way for a three-run fifth for the Cardinals. Sarah Spaeth doubled to cut the Blazers' lead to 3-2. Allie Lajeuness gave the Cardinals the lead with a two-out, two-run single.
