FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College baseball team dropped the second game of its two-game Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth series against Stevenson University 8-2.
At the Plate
- Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun) led Hood at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
- Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, PA/Nativity BVM) went 2-for-4 with a double, and a stolen base.
- Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) reached base three times via two walks and a base hit.
On the Mound
- Dutch DeProspero (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) started and took the loss, allowing the game's first three hitters to reach base before giving way to the bullpen. .
- Frank Spaide (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) finished the first inning and pitched three innings out of the bullpen, giving up two runs on three hits.
- Gavin Pollard (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) allowed one run on two hits in two innings.
- Trey Baker (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport) gave up a run on two hits in the sixth inning.
- Cole Whitton (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
- Joe Monteleone (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) finished the game for the Blazers, giving up a run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one in two innings.
Stevenson 8, Hood 2
- Stevenson loaded the bases against DeProspero before the Blazers went to the bullpen in the first. . After the pitching change by the Blazers, Tommy Holcomb knocked in Jonathan Brandt for the first run of the game. Amani Jones and Dylan Scott hit back-to-back singles that scored Billy McAdam and Holcomb as the Mustangs led 3-0 after the first inning.
- Hood got on the board in the bottom of the second inning scoring one run to cut the Stevenson lead to 3-1. Saylor singled with one out and Nick Rampone (Mendham, NJ/Randolph) reached on an error. Another error by the Mustangs, this one on a hard line drive by Jenkins to shortstop, allowed Saylor to score from second.
- In the third inning, Jones hit his first of two home runs in the game for Stevenson, a two-run home run over the right field fence. Stevenson's lead grew to , stretching the lead to 5-1.
- Will Mesa homered in the fourth inning for Stevenson for its sixth run of the game.
- In the bottom of the inning, Sommer singled through the right side that scored Rampone, cutting Hood's deficit to 6-2.
- Alex Russo was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning for the Mustangs. He later made it to third base following a failed pick off by Baker and scored on an RBI single down the line in left by Brandt that made the score 7-2.
- The last run of the game came on Jones' second homer of the day, over the right field fence for the Mustangs in the ninth inning.
For the Opponent
- Jones had a big game for the Mustangs, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored.
- Mesa hit the other of Stevenon's three home runs.
- Brandt, Holcomb and Scott all recorded an RBI.
- Power started the game for the Mustangs, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings of work. He also struck out four and walked two.
- Cameron Nebel received the win out of the bullpen throwing four shutout innings. He struck out five and walked two.
- Matt Kossey pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Stevenson.
Notes
- Hood falls to 8-24 overall and 1-9 in the MAC Commonwealth on the year.
- Stevenson improved to 12-21-1 and 7-3.
