GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Hood College field hockey team made program history in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener against No. 10 Messiah University on Wednesday as they scored against the Falcons for the first time ever.

How It Happened
- Hood's Scheibach scored the first goal of the game on a penalty corner at the 13:50 minute mark after she tipped in the initial shot by Frost to earn the early 1-0 lead.
- Less than a minute later, Lauren Seubert scored on a stroke for the Flacons to tie the game at 1-1 with 12:41 remaining in the first quarter.
- Messiah broke the tie with 7:40 on the clock when Kelsey Heltzel buried to take the lead 2-1 going into the second quarter.
- The Falcons scored three goals in the second quarter as Smith and Heltzel scored their second of the day and Makayla Malcolm scored to extend the lead 5-1 going into the third.
- Messiah secured the 6-1 victory when Smith capped off her hat trick and scored on another stroke with about three minutes left in the third.
- The Blazers held the Falcons scoreless in the final quarter despite the six shots the defense was faced with.
