Two-goal comeback not enough against Eastern

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College field hockey team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play with a 3-2 loss to the visiting Eastern University Eagles on Saturday. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Sage Barnhart (Lititz, PA/Warwick) and Julia Cencetti (New Market, MD/Linganore) both scored for Hood. 
  • Hood recorded nine saves with four from Richana Brown (Dover, DE/Dover) and five from Emma Prince (Louisville, KY/Louisville Male)
  • Kate Bentz (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) took a team-high five shots. 
How It Happened
  • The Blazers found themselves in a 3-0 deficit in the second period but scored back-to-back goals to bring the game within one.
  • Barnhart scored the first goal for Hood off an assist by Neebe with 53 seconds remaining in the second quarter to make the score 3-1 in favor of Eastern. 
  • Cencetti found the back of the goal after winning the rebounded ball off the goalie's pads and tapped it right by Abby Agapito to score Hood's second goal of the game in the 35th minute of the third to wrap up the game's scoring. 
  • In the game's final minute, Eastern's Lily White was awarded a stroke but Prince denied White the chance to extend the Eagles' lead. 
  • Eastern earned the 1-0 lead over Hood scoring in the last 15 seconds in the first quarter with a Kara Frantz goal off a Morgan Ruhl. 
  • The Eagles scored two in the second quarter both by Sydney Davis, with the first being in the 17th minute of the game off a Ruhl assist and the second ten minutes later on an unassisted tally to secure the 3-0.

  • Eastern outshot Hood 17-13.
  • The Blazers held the advantage in 9-6 in corners.
