Women's Volleyball falls to Messiah

FREDERICK, Md. - After tying the match at a set apiece, the Hood College women's volleyball team could not find another gap in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Messiah's defense, as the Blazers fell 3-1.

The Falcons won 25-17, 23-25, 25-8, 25-17. 

Inside the Box Score
 
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led the Blazers with nine kills, as well as five aces on the night. 

Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) finished with 17 assists in the match. 

Ashley Donald (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) had a team-leading nine digs.
 

MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown), Anna Daley (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek), and Donald all finished the evening with two blocks. 

How it Happened
 
Some back-and-forth play in the first set saw Messiah take a 10-8 lead, but the Falcons would proceed to go on a 12-3 run to take a commanding lead they would not relinquish. 

The Blazers started off the second set with a 9-4 run with help f
rom three kills and an ace from Ofoegbu. After back-to-back kills from Wright boosted the Blazers to a 21-14 lead, the Falcons would go on a seven-point run to tie the game at 21 apiece.
However, the Blazers would regain their composure and take the set with two kills in a row from Ofoegbu. 

After Wright and Logan Burge (Urbana, Md./Urbana) each got a kill to
tie the third set 2-2, Messiah would take the next 14 points to take control of the set before finishing it with a kill from Mackenzie Freight. 

Messiah would start the fourth set with a 6-0 run
and kept a consistent lead throughout the set, but Hood would not go down easily, mounting an 8-4 run late to make it 22-17, but the Falcons would score the next three points to finish the match. 

For the Opponent
 
Sarah Hart finished with 12 kills for the Falcons. 

Emma Swartz led Messiah with 25 assists
. 

Caitlin
Lielbriedis was credited with 17 digs. 

Malina
Beiderman served up six aces for Messiah. 

Notes
 
Hood falls to 7-15 overall, 1-4 in conference, while Messiah improves to 16-6 overall, 3-2 in conference.
