Women’s Volleyball comes up short against Randolph

FREDERICK, Md. - A third set victory was not enough to spark a comeback against Randolph College, as the Hood College women's volleyball team fell 3-1.

Set Scores

The Wildcats won 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 26-24.

Inside the Box Score

Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led the Blazers with 19 kills, while Logan Burge (Urbana, Md./Urbana) picked up 16 of her own.

Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) finished with 26 assists.

Molly McGraw (Forest Hill, Md./Concordia Prep) had 16 digs
on the afternoon.

Jackie Malitzki (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) ended the match with four aces.

How it Happened

The Wildcats took an early 4-1 lead in the first set, but the Blazers battled back with kills from Ofoegbu and MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) to take a 16-15 lead. Randolph would then go on a 7-2 run to take the late lead before closing out the set.

Hood started out the second set in a 4-0
hole but kept close enough before going on a five-point run to tie the score at 15 thanks to two aces from Ofoegbu and kills from Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy). The Blazers would only score two more points after that however, as the Wildcats closed out the set with a seven-point run.

Although Hood started the third set off with a 9-3 run, capped off with back-to-back aces from
Malitzki, Randolph would come back to take a 13-12 lead. The Wildcats looked to finish the straight sweep when they pulled ahead 22-20, but the Blazers scored five of the next six points to force a fourth set.

The fourth set started in favor of Hood, as the Blazers jumped out to a 12-6
lead. Randolph never fell too far behind though, and eventually took a 22-19 lead after a five-point run. Although the Blazers retook the lead with a four-point run of their own, an ace from Sequoyah Sorensen would close out the match for the Wildcats.

For the Opponent

Mackenzie Woodson and Brooklyn Finnerty had 12 kills, with Woodson tacking on 19 digs.

Jayda Domenech tallied 20 assists in the match.
