How it Happened
Hood took control of the game early, going on a 9-2 run in the first three and a half minutes of the game.
Six minutes into the first half,
Karron Mallory (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) made a three-pointer immediately after coming in for Linton to give the Blazers a 17-4 lead.
After some back-and-forth scoring, the Jackets' Ryan Felberg converted all three shots on a Strickland foul from beyond the arc to cut into Hood's lead, but a Waynesburg turnover after a
Ryan Hollwedel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) three-pointer would lead to a quick basket for Gielen to regain their lead.
Hood would go into halftime ahead 44-27 with
Will Spencer (Davidsonville, Md./Boys' Latin School) making a long-range shot to cap off the scoring.
The second half started with both teams exchanging scores, and the Jackets would go on a 6-0 run to cut the Blazers' lead to just 11 points with 13:34 remaining, but that would be the closest they would get the rest of the game.
Hood would respond with a 20-5 run over the next five minutes, with Strickland contributing eight points himself.
The Blazers kept their foot on the gas the rest of the way as Robinson and
Yhali Steinhauer (Jezreel Valley, Israel/Putnam Science Academy (Conn.)) scored 10 of the game's final 13 points, the last of those coming from an emphatic Robinson dunk with 12 seconds left.
