Men’s basketball downed by Stevens

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College men's basketball team could not solve the offense of Stevens, as the Blazers fell 85-66 at home.

Inside the Box Score
Soren Almquist (Oakton, Va./James Madison) led the Blazers with 14 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor and adding five rebounds.

Garrison Linton (New Market, Md./Oakdale) and Justin Gielen (Edgewater, Md./DeMatha) both finished with 12 points, with Linton coming down with eight total rebounds.

How it Happened
The first half started with both teams exchanging baskets until back-to-back three-pointers from Troy Fulton (Denver, N.C./Lincoln Charter School) and Gielen gave the Blazers a 15-10 lead six minutes into the game.

The lead changed multiple times over the next 12 minutes, with Hood taking a slight two-point lead with just over four minutes to play when Almquist made his free throw after a foul on his shot from beyond the arc went in to finish the four-point play.

Stevens would answer that with five three-pointers in a row courtesy of Stephen Braunstein and Connor Coffey to take a commanding lead, only cut by two thanks to free throws from Garrett Cox (Glen Allen, VA/Glen Allen) with less than two seconds in the half.

Jack Spellman kicked off the second half for the Ducks by finishing a put-back dunk which sparked a 9-0 run in the first six minutes for Stevens.

Spellman would get into foul trouble halfway through the period and would ultimately foul out with just over eight minutes left to play trying to contest a Jude Huseby (Frederick, Md./Urbana) layup. Huseby would convert both free throws.

Although the Blazers would go on a few short runs, the Ducks never let them get too close, continuing to score at a consistent pace.

For the Opponent
Braunstein led the Ducks in scoring with 18 points.

Mike Goodall finished right behind him with 16 points, adding five rebounds.

Matt Leming ended the night with 15 points, coming down with five rebounds as well.
