READING, Pa. - Hood College's 4x200 relay team broke the school record, along with three first-place finishers at the Plex Shootout, hosted by Alvernia University.
Record Breaker
- The 4x200-meter relay team of Jamel Mins (Columbia, Md./Atholton), Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Rell Asamoah (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Tofunmi Okuseinde (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) ran a time of 1:34.65, placing second in there in the event. The time cut just over one second from the record of 1:35.70 that was set back in 2012.
Highlights
- Alex Seskar (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) ran a career-best in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:48.21. The time is the second-fastest time in Hood College history in the event.
- Ellington and Mins also qualified for the 60-meter dash, with their times in the preliminary round. In the final Ellington finished second with a time of 7.15 seconds, which is a career-best and is tied for the third fastest time in school history. Mins did not run in the final, but the sophomore's time of 7.24 seconds in the preliminary round was good for the eighth-best time in the event.
- Mins ran the 200-meter dash in 22.78 seconds, taking home the top time out of 46th participants.
- Sappe also ran in the 800-meter run and won the event in a field of 51 runners, with a time of 1:59:30. The first-year student also finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:27.46.
- Owen Ellington (Laurel, Md./Gonzaga College) ran in the 400-meter dash and finished with the top spot out of 34 entries, with a time of 53.52.
- Dustin Miller (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) recorded a career-best in the shot put with a mark of 12.28 meters (40-3 ½ ), placing 15th out of 40 participants.

The Blazers will split the squad on Feb. 18. Various athletes with be at the SU Tune-Up at Susquehanna University, while others will head up to Hagerstown Community College.
