Three school records fall on final day at MACs


READING, Pa. - Hood College's Jamel Mins (Columbia, Md./Atholton), Chris Sappe (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) and Dustin Miller (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) all broke school records to pace the men's track and field team on the final day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Alvernia University. 

Record Breakers
  • Sappe bested his school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.11, placing second overall in the event. The time bested his previous time of 1:57.55 which was set at the Liberty Open at the beginning of the month. His placement gave the Blazers eight points and gave him All-MAC Second Team accolades.
  • Mins broke Hood's 200-meter dash record with a time of 22.46 seconds, placing third. The time bested the sophomore's previous record time of 22.66 which set a record three weeks ago. His placement earned All-MAC Third team and awarded the Blazers six points as a team. 
  • Miller broke his second record in two days. On day two, he set a new standard in the shot put with a mark of 12.93 meters (42-5 1/4), placing 11th overall. The graduate student bested his original mark set just last weekend. 
All-MAC Honors
  • Mins also finished second overall in the 60-meter dash, with a time of 7.06. The time scored eight points for the Blazers in the event and Mins received second-team all-conference honors. 
  • Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) joined Mins as All-MAC in the 60. He scored six points f with a time of 7.09 that placed third overall and scored all-conference third team honors. 
  • The 4x400 relay team of Mins, Evan Ellington (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Owen Ellington (Laurel, Md./Gonzaga College) and Sappe finished third with a time of 3:32.77. The time gave the quartet a place on the All-MAC Third Team and scored the Blazers six points as a team.
Highlights 
  • Owen Ellington (Laurel, Md./Gonzaga College) ran a career-best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.63, placing seventh overall. The time was good to give the Blazers two points.
  • Rell Asamoah (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.30 seconds, which scored one point.  
Notes 
  • The Blazers finished in seventh with 44 points overall. 
  • Messiah won the team MAC Championships with 107.5 points.
