WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Hood College's
Jocelyn Pfleiger (Quakertown, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) homered in both games as the softball team defeated Nichols 5-0 and fell to Case Western Reserve 8-1 on the Blazers' spring break trip to Florida.
At the Plate
- Pfleiger's two homers gave her 14 in her career, tying Kristy Erfurdt for third all-time at Hood.
- Rachel Benden (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) went 2-for-2 against Nichols and added a hit against CWRU to end the day 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.
- Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) had two hits and scored twice against Nichols.
Inside the Circle
- Gottleib pitched a two-hit shutout in the day's first game. The sophomore struck out seven and walked three.
- She pitched the first two innings against the Spartans and took the loss, allowing three runs in two innings. Jordan Long (Middletown, Md./Middletown) surrendered five runs over the next two innings in relief before Lindsay Wilson (Pasadena, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game.
Hood 5, Nichols 0
- The Blazers jumped in front early with a two-out rally in the first. Gottleib walked and stole second, allowing her to score on a base hit to right field by Benden.
- The duo combined for another two-out rally in the third, hitting back-to-back doubles for a 2-0 lead.
- Pflieger made it 4-0 in the fifth with a two-run home run to left that drove in Chloe Saunders (Middletown, Md./Middletown).
- Saunders drove in Blasko with an RBI single in the sixth for Hood's fifth run.
- Gottleib, meanwhile, turned in her first shutout of the season, allowing just three runners to reach second base.
Case Western Reserve 8, Hood 1
- After Pfleiger hit her fifth homer of the season in the top of the third, the Spartans answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. An RBI double by KaiLi Gross gave CWRU a 2-1 lead and forced the Blazers into a pitching change. Amanda Riely added another RBI double in the inning and scored on Anna Gobeyn's two-run home run that made it 6-1.
- Carli Tucci hit a two-run shot in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
For the Opponents
- Gross and Isabella Russo had two hits apiece for Case Western.
- Kylie Hosey pitched the first six innings for the Spartans to get the win. She allowed one run on two hits and a walk, striking out five.
- Chelsea Indyk took the loss in the opener for Nichols, allowing four runs in 4.1 innings. She struck out five and allowed four hits and three walks.

- Hood is 5-7 on the season.
